What do I do if my Insurance is included?

If insurance is included in your package, it will be active from the delivery date. Our insurance partner will email you your insurance certificate no sooner than 5 days before delivery.

Please check that all details on your certificate are correct for you and any additional drivers (such as the spelling of; your name, your address, any additional drivers, etc.) If you notice something isn’t right, please let us know and we’ll get it sorted.

If you have any queries about your insurance cover, need to notify or report any changes, or need to add an additional driver during the term of your agreement (this may incur a cost, as per the terms and conditions of our insurance provider), please get in touch with us.

My car’s being delivered soon, when will the insurance company be in touch?

You can expect your insurance policy, listing you and any additional named drivers, to arrive no sooner than 5 days before vehicle delivery. If you don’t receive this within 24 hours of your delivery, please contact us via the Driverline: 020 3322 2601.

Why is my insurance certificate only for a year, if my lease is longer than this?

It’s standard practice to only insure your car for a year. Your certificate will run from the vehicle delivery date until midnight 364 days later. It will then expire.

However, we will automatically renew your policy and your new policy will be issued up to one month before the renewal date. So, you should have your insurance documentation for the following year ahead of the expiry date.

What if my policy document has incorrect information on it?

If your document has incorrect or missing information on it, please let us know as soon as possible at customerservice@octopusev.com and we’ll ensure you get a fresh and correct policy document.

What should I do if I have a private plate?

If you’re currently transitioning to a private plate, please make sure you’ve followed the necessary steps in the private plates section.

Once you’ve completed these steps, we’ll inform the insurers and you’ll receive a fresh policy document with your new registration.

Once you get your new policy document, please check to ensure that the new registration is correct and that all named drivers are present.

If your document is incorrect or has missing information, please get in touch with us as soon as possible at customerservice@octopusev.com and we’ll make sure this gets corrected.

Can I add an additional driver onto my policy mid-lease?

If you want to add an additional driver onto your insurance mid-lease, you’ll need to contact us via the Driverline: 020 3322 2601. We’ll contact the insurance provider on your behalf. However, there may be a cost attached to this.

If you are charged for your additional driver, the difference will be payable in full. But we’ll always communicate any possible additional costs with you before you commit to the change.

If you add an additional driver, you’ll receive a fresh policy document. Please ensure this is all correct. If there’s anything wrong or it’s missing information, please let us know as soon as possible via emailing us at customerservice@octopusev.com.

What to do if insurance isn’t included in your EV package?

If insurance isn’t included in your EV package, you’ll need to arrange your own. You’ll need to email us a copy of the insurance certificate at least seven days before your car is delivered. If we don’t receive this, delivery of your EV will be delayed.

You’ll also need to send us your insurance renewal certificates every year.

We’re not able to advise on insurance providers, but your insurance must:

  • Be fully comprehensive (for all drivers on the policy)
  • Be issued to the correct registration
  • Be issued to the correct specification of your car
  • Cover both you and any additional drivers on your quotation
  • Be valid for the minimum term
    • 12 months if you’re on our salary sacrifice or personal contract hire agreements
    • 9 months if you’re on our business contract hire agreement
  • Be personal insurance and not business or fleet insurance (if you have a salary sacrifice agreement)
  • Cover business use (if you have a Business Contract Hire agreement)
